UNWE RECTOR ASSUMES DUTIES IN BNB GOVERNING BODY
The new member of the Board of Governors of Bulgarian National Bank (BNB), Borislav Borissov, was presented officially to the senior governing body of the central bank during its meeting on June 13. On this day Borissov who is also rector of the University for National and World Economy (UNWE) took up his duties as a member of the Board of Governors replacing Garabed Minasyan whose six-year mandate expired.
Borislav Borissov was elected member of the BNB Board of Governors by Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov on April 13. According to the BNB Act, the Governor and his three deputies are elected by the National Assembly, while the three members of the Board of Governors are appointed by the President. The BNB Act (art. 12, paragraph 4) also stipulates that a new member of the Board of Governors is to be elected no later than two months before the mandate of the active member expires.
Borislav Borissov was born on September 12, 1949 in Sofia. He graduated in political economy from the Karl Marx economic institute (now called the University for National and World Economy) in 1976. He worked as an assistant and then as a lecturer at the same university where he taught intellectual property and intangible assets management.
Apart from the scientific field, the new member of BNB Board of Governors has broad experience in the business area. Since 1993 he has been a licensed evaluator of intellectual property at the Privatisation Agency. He took part in the preparation of privatisation assessments of Vitosha-New Ottany hotel, LB Bulgarikum, Sodi-Devnya, Plama-Pleven, Chimko-Vratsa, BTC, etc. During the ruling of Zhan Videnov he was chairman of the Bourgas Airport EAD Board of Directors and between 1998 and 2000 he was executive director of the Bulgarian-English Balkan AD pension fund and chairman of Armeyski Holding AD Board of Directors.
In 2000, Borislav Borissov became chairman of the Union for Economic Entrepreneurship, established in 1990 and currently among the employers' organisations whose representatives participate in the National Trilateral Collaboration Council. A year later he entered politics as a representative of the Coalition for Bulgaria in the 39th National Assembly. In 2005, Borissov was appointed rector of UNWE.
