SUPERVISOR OF PLOVDIV - SVILENGRAD RAILWAY ALREADY KNOWN
A consortium of five companies will be consulting the supervision over the modernization and electrification pf the Plovdiv - Svilengrad railroad, the transport Ministry announced during the week. The joint venture includes the Spanish ТYPSA, the French Louis Berger, the Greek TRADEMCO, the American Rubicon Engineering, and the international Systra.
The leading company in the consortium, ТYPSA, was established in 1966 and has worked in more than 50 countries worldwide. Among the big projects it implements at present are modernizations of railways and airports in Spain.
The contract with the consortium is worth EUR12.5MN and will last for 74 months. The Plovdiv - Svilengrad railroad is part of IV and IX European transport corridors. The project is worth a total of EUR340MN. EUR153MN has been released under the ISPA programme of the European Commission, another EUR150MN 150 is provided by the European Investment Bank, and co-financing from the state budget amounts to EUR37MN.
Only one contractor has been chosen so far - for the 38-km section from Kroumovo to Parvomai. In 2005 a contract worth EUR85.7MN was closed with the Greek company ТЕRNА. A contract for the 114-km long section from Purvomai to Svilengrad is to be signed in 2007.
