The European Parliament believes that the year 2007, proposed by Bulgaria for its accession to the European Union, is realistic. This opinion is included in a draft resolution, which must be voted by the parliament this autumn, the Bulgarian National Radio announced.
The authorities managed to stabilize the economy, to harmonize a considerable part of the Bulgarian legislation with the European one, and have started working on social problems, the draft says. According to it the country still has no functioning market economy, and the citizens cannot benefit fully from the economic growth. Efforts should be made to make Bulgarian legislation system strong and effective. The draft emphasizes on the role of Bulgaria as a stabilizing factor in the Balkans. The successful reform in Bulgaria now depends on forming a stable ruling coalition, which should continue the actions of the previous government, it says.
