STATE WILL ALLOCATE BGN51MN TO SCHOOLS FOR COMPUTERS
In the next 15 months the State will contribute more to computerization than it has done within the last 20 years, Vice Premier and Minister of Transport and Telecommunications Nikolay Vassilev said on November 2 at the opening of the 9th exhibition of info and communication technologies BAIT Expo 2004.The Government's iBulgaria programme envisions opening of 160 computer telecentres by mid-2005, and 3,300 schools round the country are to be equipped with computer halls. Investments for the purpose will total BGN51.5MN.More than 100 firms presented their products at the exhibition that will last till November 7. They are divided in three thematic groups: hardware, own software developments, telecommunications, networks and INTERNET. One of the forum's aims is to unite the participants aginst illegal distributors of equipment and software. According to information of the organizers, about 90,000-100,000 computers are sold in bulgaria each year, of which almost 40% have been illegally imported without the necessary documents and certificates.
