SPANISH TEXTILE COMPANIES EXPLORE THE GROUND IN BULGARIA
Many Spanish companies are interested in the opportunities for investing in Bulgaria, Carlos Merenge, Head of the Trade Department of the Spanish Embassy in Sofia, said a week ago. The greatest interest has been shown by owners of textile companies, intending to produce their goods in our country. Seventeen business visits of Spanish firms have been planned for 2004, and 10 of them are already a fact, Mr. Merenge specified. Their aim is to sign business contracts. In the last four months the export of Bulgarian products to Spain increased by 48% as compared to the same period of last year. The import of Spanish goods to Bulgaria rose by 26%, Dimiter Pampoulov, Chairman of the Bulgarian-Spanish Business Council (BSBC) with the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) said on Wednesday (June 23) when presenting the activity of the company, set up in end-2003. The aim of the council is to assist the business contacts between Bulgarian and Spanish firms, Mr. Pampoulov explained, adding that representatives of the Chambers of Commerce of Barcelona, Madrid and Manressa had already visited Bulgaria, expressing willingness to invest here. Soon owners of Bulgarian companies, importing leather articles, will leave for Spain to meet producers from the town of Ubrike. Bilateral commercial exchange amounted to USD 442MN in 2003, the BSBC reported. In that period Spain ranked 10th among Bulgaria's export destinations, and 12th among importers to our country. Automobiles and knitted wear are the main commodities on Spain's export list to Bulgaria, and our exports to Spain are mainly wheat and ready-made clothes. the BSBC specified. The new INTERNET website of BSBC where the addresses of all Spanish firms seeking contacts with business partners in Bulgaria could be found, was presented during the meeting.
