SOFIA AIRPORT WILL NOT SET UP A NEW CARRIER
As the BANKER weekly has already written, the Sofia Airport will not stop the planes of Balkan Airlines. On October 16 the Board of Directors of the state-owned airport reversed its decision made on September 13 for refusing ground services to Balkan's aircraft until the general meeting of the air company's creditors, scheduled for October 29. Our aim is to avoid escalation of the already existing tension and attract once again the attention of the international aviation community, as well as remain loyal to the passngers who have already booked their flights, the Executive Director of the airport Stoil Pashkunov explained. He added that no new payments of the air-carrier's liabilities to the airport were expected by October 29. The Executive Director refuted information in the press that the Sofia Airport would take part in setting up a new airline and recalled that this would mean that the donors of the project for the reconstruction of the airport's runway and terminal would withdraw. Nobody gave us money for establishing an airline, he added.
