REPAIR OF HEMUS HIGHWAY HAS STARTED
The Austrian company Strabag has begun the rehabilitation of the Hemus highway. The repairs started on Monday (May 3) with the symbolic first sod. The ceremony was attended by Giovanni Di-Girolamo, head of the PHARE and ISPA department with the delegation of the European Commission in Bulgaria, representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, and MPs. The rehabilitation of four sections with a total length of 26.2 km should be completed by the end of Augsut, 2005. Repairs of sections between the 11th and 44th kilometre of the highway in the region of Botevgrad have been planned, too. The project is worth EUR3.61MN, of which 75% will be ensured by the ISPA Programme of the European Union, and the balance will come from the republican budget. The Austrian company Strabag became known in connection with the construction of the new passenger terminal of the Sofia Airport. In the end of 2003 it also won a tender for the repair of part of the E-79 A-class road in the section between Vidin and Montana.
