Q1 COMMERCIAL EXCHANGE DOWN
The National Statistics Institute (NSI) reported a 5.3% decline in Bulgaria's foreign trade turnover for the first three months of 2002. According to preliminary data, commercial exchange in that period amounted to USD2.8BN, or BGN6.1MN.Bulgarian exports in the first quarter totaled USD1.2BN, or BGN2.6BN, 6.9% down from the same period of 2001. The results are mainly due to the drop in production rates, typical for the winter, Emiliya Danailova, head of NSI's National Accounts and Balances, Exports and Imports department explained. As a whole, however, it is a question of a decrease in the exported quantities, and not of broken relations with our foreign trade partners, Ms. Danailova specified.
