ONLY 30,000 TONS OF GRAIN MISSING FROM THE RESERVE
Just 30,000 tons of grain are missing from the warehouses of the State Reserve Agency, the Chairman of the temporary investigation commission Plamen Mollov said at the end of his meeting with Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. This amount is not so big, he said, considering that 70,000-80,000 tons have been missing every year since 1997.By April 16, Mollov's commission will have prepared its final report. It will propose that the prosecutor's office be informed about the occasions of drastically drained grain reserves. The report will also suggest draft amendments to the law which coordinates the operations of the State Reserve Agency. The managers of the agency promised they would ask for the Criminal Code to be amended so that the misuse of reserve goods would be considered a crime. The Prime Minister turned down a proposal by MPs from BZNS-People's Union who requested that the duty-free flour import from Turkey be canceled. According to Mr. Mollov, the import has played a role for the stabilization of the market and the wheat deficit has already been overcome.
