JUBILEE SILVER COIN FOR THE WORLD CUP LAUCNHED BY BNB
The Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) put in circulation as of September 3, 2003 a commemorative silver coin to mark the upcoming World Football Championship 2006 that will take place in Germany. The jubilee coin is part of the series dedicated to sports, central bank's Chief Treasurer Roumyan Chobanov said. The coin weighs 28.28 grams, standard 925/1000, and its par value is BGN5. 50,000 such coins have been minted. They could be purchased from BNB's branch offices in Sofia, Plovdiv, Pleven and Varna against BGN32. A 25% trade discount is offered if more than 20 coins are purchased. In that case a coin costs BGN24. The jubilee silver coin, designed by Elena Todorova and Ivan Todorov, has been made in the Bulgarian Mint. On the face of it is depicted BNB's emblem, the figure 5, the word LEVA and the year of the emission 2003. On the reverse the coin has the World Cup depicted and the Championship's logo, and the inscription 2006 FIFA WORLD CUP GERMANY.On December 1, 2003 the central bank will emit a commemorative gold coin The Blessing Virgin Mary of par value BGN20, standard 999/1000. 20,000 such coins will be minted. BNB's emblem will be on the face of it, and Blessing Vigin Mary with Jesus Christ will be on the reverse side of the coin.
