HEWLETT-PACKARD TO BE ASSISTING IN KZM MANAGEMENT
The Plovdiv-based ferous metal works KZM will introduce a new info system for management, hoping to improve its financial performance by at least 7 per cent. The amount of the investment will become known after the project's completion. The first stage alone will take a year. The info system will be based on Hewlett-Packard's latest platform Itanium 2 and the most vanguard technologies of SAP Bulgaria. One more info company - Siemens Business Services - will take part in the project. The new system will be used by 150 workers and employees of the enterprise. The decision for modernizing KZM's info system was made back in end-2001, but its implementation has been delayed till now. Investments in info technologies are usually returned within two years, Dimitar Nestorov, Director of the company's Info Technologies Department, pointed out at a press conference. KZM is the first enterprise in Central and Eastern Europe to be using Hewlett-Packard's new platform. Last year the company reported a profit of BGN1.4MN from sale proceeds of BGN173MN. Yet, the enterprise's core activity was loss-making and the loss was compensated by exchange rate differences.
