FIVE ENTERPRISES DISTINGUISHED FOR ENVIRONMENT-FRIENDLY OPERATION
The Deputy Minister of Environment and Waters Manoela Georgieva has presented five documents for prevention of environmental pollution. The chosen companies are Sopharma - Sofia, Stomana Industry - Pernik, Promet - Bourgas, Neochim - Dimitrovgrad, and Orgachim - Rousse. With the received certificates the enterprises get acknowledgement that their istallations are environmentally friendly, i.e. they do not emit into the atmosphere harmful substances above the admissible emission norms.An Executive Agency for the Environment with the Ministry of Environment and Waters will be issuing the certificates for operation in compliance with ecological requirements. A special department for the issuance of permits for operation has been already set up. It will be quite busy, having in mind that another 70 permits are to be issued by the end of this year. The entire list includes 250 enterprises, which will be invited to bring their installations in compliance with the European ecological requirements and get the respective certificates for that. The companies will have to comply with the EU standards if they want to sell their output on the European market after the year 2007. Those of the enterprises, which continue to emit harmful substances above the set norms, shall be closed down after 2012 when the term of bringing Bulgaria's industry in compliance with EU ecological standards expires.Seven more enterprises have received such documents: Solvey Sodi, Agropolychim, OKZ-Kurdjali, KZM-Plovdiv, Umicore Med, Biovet, and Chimco.
