EUR5MN GRANTED FOR SECOND DANUBE BRIDGE
The project for the construction of a second bridge over the Danube between Bulgaria and Romania at Vidin-Kalafat received a free grant of EUR5MN under the Stability Pact for Southeastern Europe. On April 9 the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications Plamen Petrov signed a financial agreement with the French Development Agency (AFD), which manages the funds. AFD's Deputy Director Georges d'Andlau, who signed the document on behalf of the donors, said that the EUR5MN is France's contribution for the development of communications in the Balkans. The money is within the general scheme, projecting a total of EUR180MN for financing future construction work. France is for the second time granting money for implementation of the Danube Bridge 2 project. Last year the French Government granted EUR500,000 for feasibility studies of the economic, social, and environmental consequences of the second Danube bridge. The money was utilized in end-2001.
