DIRECT FOREIGN INVESTMENT IN BULGARIA
According to preliminary data of the National Bank of Bulgaria, cited by BTA, direct foreign investment for the first quarter of 2001 amounted to 143 million US dollars, up 13 per cent, or 16.5 million dollars, on the same year-ago period.
The biggest investors for the period under review were Austria with 26.4 per cent of the overall direct foreign investment, the Czech Republic with 18 per cent and Germany with 14.2 per cent. 45.2 million leva in equity capital were attracted during the same period, 5.3 million dollars less than the figure for the same period in 2000. 4.6 million dollars of profits were reinvested in the first quarter, down 14.2 million dollars on the same 2000 period when it amounted to 18.8 million dollars.
The above figures are part of the preliminary data for 2000 and 2001. The 2000 data will be collated with information of the National Statistical Institute.
