DEADLINE FOR OFFERS FOR RECONSTRUCTION OF SOFIA AIRPORT EXTENDED
The deadline for placing bids to the Transport Ministry for the project to lengthen the existing runway and build a new runway at Sofia Airport is extended by three weeks to June 18 from May 28. The reason for the extension is the great interest showed by bidders and the setting up of consortia by some of them. During the extended three weeks, the bidders will be able to legalize their documents and enter the bidding. On May 8 the Ministry initiated a bidding procedure for selection of an entity to implement the Lot B1 project, which includes construction of a new passenger terminal building according to IATA standards. The new terminal will have a capacity of 2.5 million passengers/year (2,500 passengers/hour at peak hours), a floor area of 26,000 sq m, 40 check-in desks, 7-8 bridges, new aprons covering 38,000 sq m, and road access and 4-level parking space of approximately 18,000 sq m for 829 cars. Funding for this project is provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB) (EUR 60 M), the EU ISPA pre-accession facility (EUR 50 M ), and the Bulgarian state budget (EUR 50 M).
