COMPETITION BETWEEN MTEL AND GLOBUL BEGAN AT PLOVDIV FAIR
Real competition between the two local GSM-operators MTel and GloBul started at this year's autumn edition of the International Technical Fair in Plovdiv. Immediately after the opening of the exhbition, MTel advertised at a press conference the new services it would launch on the market by the year-end. The opportunity for effecting various bank operations via a mobile phone is among the most interesting new services. The GSM-operator has already reached agreements with some of the top commercial banks in Bulgaria, but did not specify any terms. The first local GSM-operator is prepared to work in competition, its Executive Director Roumyana Kyuchoukova said. We do not expect a decrease in our subscribers. On the contrary, we'll soon celebrate the 1,000,000th client of our network, she said. MTel is not going to change its strategy as it has been for a quite long time on the Bulgarian market and has gained sufficiently stable positions on it. Unlike previous years, the Radiotelecommunications Company Mobikom was not among the exhibitors at the Plovdiv Fair. The forthcoming changes in the company's ownership are probably the reason for its absence from the the Autumn 2001 ediction of the International Technical Fair.
