BULGARIA RANKS SEVENTH MOST ATTRACTIVE TOURIST DESTINATION
Bulgaria ranks among the top seven tourist destinations, according to a survey by the TUI, the biggest European tour operator. The news broke during the Tourism Expo Berlin 2004 (March 13-16). Bulgaria ranks 20th in the rating of the exposition's organizers. According to forecasts of other prestigious tour operators, such as Thomas Cook and Alltours Flugreisen, the number of German vacationers in Bulgaria will go up by some 23-25% this year. However, such an optimism is slightly premature, as bookings at present are below last year's level. Bulgaria's Deputy Economy Minister Dimitar Hadzhinikolov hopes the delay will be made up for after Tourism Expo Berlin 2004, during which he represented the country's tourism potential, with an accent not only on summer, but also on winter, cultural, spa and eco tourism. In the opinion of Hristo Kolev from Thomas Cook - Bulgaria, it is very important that the Economy Ministry observes its promise and stops construction work along our Black Sea resorts after May 1, guaranteeing in that way a normal summer season. Alltours Flugreisen representatives admitted they were still hesitating if they should speed up sales or wait until June 1 to see how that problem would be settled, due to which they received many claims last May.
