BULGARIA EXPECTS EUR55.6MN FROM SAPARD
Bulgaria will get EUR55.6MN under the EU pre-accession SAPARD programme by the end of the fiscal 2002, Kaj Mortenson, Deputy Head of the SAPARD department at the EC's agricultural directorate, announced at a press conference on December 10. The financial aid is up EUR3.6MN from the money our country recieved under that programme in 2000, and up EUR1.6MN from the funds released in 2001. The Agriculture Ministry expects the higher subsidy to be utilized, pointing out as a guarantee for that the approval in the beginning of the year of seven more measures under the programme. The other piece of news from the EC's session is that the term for utilizing the funding allocated under the annual financial agreements from 2000 and 2001 will be extended by one year, till 2004 and 2005 respectively. So far the Agriculture Fund has approved 271 projects, 95 of which have been fully implemented, and BGN24MN has been allocated to them. The fund's Deputy Executive Director Vladimir Karamishev expressed assurance that the utilized subsidies would reach BGN44MN by March 2003.
