BTA TO OPEN PRESS CLUBS BEFORE THE LOCAL ELECTIONS
The Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA) is going to open a new press club for the official start of the 2003 local elections campaign. The club will be located in the building of the agency on Tsarigradsko Shosse Blvd. in Sofia and will have the most modern equipment, BTA Director Maxim Minchev said. As the Balkan agency went bankrupt, the Sofia Press had only limited resources, and halls in most hotels demanded high costs, there has been an empty niche for organisation of press conferences and media events in Sofia, Maxim Minchev said. We had to react and the coming mayor elections only speeded up the process. The new press club will be equipped with a computer hall and the reporters will be able to send information from the place of the events. TV staffs will be offered direct links to their studios. The press conferences of foreign guests to the club will be translated immediately.BTA is going to open other press clubs in Veliko Turnovo, Plovdiv and Bourgas, Maxim Minchev said. Until then, the agency will choose correspondents in a few areas and smaller towns - Razgrad, Montana, Pazardzhik, and Kyustendil. That's how BTA will have partners and photographers in all regional centres of the country.
