BAPU ASKS PROSECUTORS TO INVESTIGATE VARNA PORT
National Association Bulgarian Agricultural People's Union (BAPU) has asked Prosecutor General Nikola Filchev to order an inspection and prove whether or not the sale of the Varna Port to Naftex Petroleum Holding is been a crime against the State. This is what the Chairman of the association Yane Yanev announced at a press conference on July 22. The signal followed a decree of the Supreme Cassation Prosecutors' Office dated July 12, which obliges the executive authorities to consider the port property of the State. The document, signed by prosecutor Matey Mateev, is addressed to the Minister of Transport and Telecommunication Plamen Petrov, the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Kostadin Paskalev, and the Governor of Varna Yani Yanev. The decree obliges Minister Petrov to require the Port Administration Executive Agency to prepare information about the type and purpose of the port. Through the State Property service, Minister Paskalev has to certify the port as exclusive State property. Governor Yanev, in turn, should sign an order for the seizure of that property and undertake due measures. The decree also requires that the executive authorities inform the Supreme Cassation Prosecutors' Office about these measures within a month.
