AGRICULTURAL EXPORTS PRAISED BY BRANCH MINISTER DIKME
The export of agricultural products has stirred up since 2001 when the trade balance marked the lowest level - below USD100MN. Within a year it increased by 40.8% on average, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Mehmed Dikme announced at a press conference on January 12. As an example he pointed out that in 2001 the agricultural sector exported goods worth USD508MN, and in 2002 that volume increased to USD716MN. According to data of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the aggregate foreign trade turnover of agricultural and food products in 2002 rose 41.2%, reaching USD1.2BN, up from USD843.9MN in the year 2002. The negative trend from two years ago has been overcome, Mr. Dikme underlined, and the trade balance is not only increasing, but remains relatively stable within USD240MN, thanks to the regained markets in the CIS and CEFTA countries, and the Middle East.
