The Chairman of the Management Board and CEO of BULBANK Levon Hampartsumyan was an official guest at a traditional dinner of bankers from the entire world, organized by London's Mayor Lord Michael Oliver. The dinner, held on June 26 at the Mayor's residence Mension House, was attended by the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown and the Governor of Bank of England Sir Edward George.The Minister of Finance Milen Velchev came back from his working visit to Washington where he was on a working visit. He talked with Bruce Jackson, Presdident of the US Committee for NATO Enlargement, with the IMF Managing Director Horst Koeler, and with the IMF Mission Leader for Bulgaria Jerald Schiff. Mr. Velchev also held meetings with the Deputy President of the World Bank Johannes Linn, the Managing Director of the IFC Peter Voike,. the US Deputy State Secretary Tommy Wein, the Deputy Secreraty of Treasury John Tailor, and with Senator Jack Read, who is also a member of the Budget and of the Armed Forces Committees.Steve Forbes is probably not acquainted with the details, because in Bulgaria we support advices to the Government, similar to those he gave, the IMF Resident Representative in Bulgaria Piritta Sorsa said regarding the US publisher's accusations that the IMF hinders economic reforms in Bulgaria.Kalin Mitrev was chosen by the Govbernment to represent Bulgaria in the Board of Directors pf the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). He will replace Valentin Tsvetkov who was appointed to the position in 1999 and his mandate will soon expire. Kalin Mitrev is presently Executive Director of Industrial Holding Bulgaria. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Bulgarian Stock Exchange and chairs the BoD of the Bourgas-based dockyard. Mr. Mitrev has already been Bulgaria's representative in the EBRD. He was appointed to that position in 1996 by the government of former socialist premier Zhan Videnov.
